“Bring yourself to the table.” – Tina McDuffie ’97

Since graduating from Emerson College in 1997, award-winning broadcast journalist Tina McDuffie has contributed considerably to television and radio reporting in New England. After freelancing as a news writer and reporter, McDuffie joined WFSB TV in Hartford, Connecticut, where she worked for six years. Beginning in 2015, she contributed to the Huffington Post as a blogger. In the same year, McDuffie began her career at WGBH. There, she has hosted episodes of the shows Greater Boston and Basic Black, earning an Emmy nomination for the latter. Her voice has been heard locally on NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered and PBS Newshour. McDuffie currently hosts the show Local, USA on WGBH’s WORLD Channel. In addition to connecting with viewers in over 30 million households nationally, she educates local journalism students as an Associate Professor of the Practice at Boston University. 

McDuffie’s excellence in the field of journalism has been recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Public Media Journalists Association. She is the recipient of nine Telly Awards, and has been a member of the WERS Hall of Fame since 2018.
