I’m a junior at Emerson and I’m

Last summer,

I was a lifestyle intern
at this company called Purple PR.

I reached out to an
Emerson alum on LinkedIn

and she put me in touch with the intern coordinator, and me and her had a meeting

and I essentially got offered
the job on the spot.

So I would go into the office.

I worked from 9:30 to 5 p.m.

I would email my boss, so my intern

coordinator, and I would ask her
if she had any tasks for me today,

and then she would email me back and/or she would forward that email

to anyone else on the lifestyle team
and they would send me tasks.

My responsibilities included things like clippings, auditing,

getting mail,
just kind of your usual intern stuff.

So number one was the final project that we had to do,

and number two was all the cool events that I had to go to,

because Purple PR—they’re a public relations company

that works with a lot of high-end, luxury lifestyle clientele.

So that part of the internship
was super cool

because we actually got to see the events firsthand.

And then also for the final project,
we had to create a pitch

for one of the clients
that Purple already has.

So that was really cool
because I kind of got to do exactly

get to do when working in PR

on how to create a pitch deck—

so just kind of like walking me through that whole process—was really influential

and really educational.

that I got to work with!

I loved my boss and I loved all of the
people on the lifestyle team.

They were all super welcoming and friendly,

but also they made sure that
I was learning how to do things correctly

and also just kind of trying to push me as well to learn even more.

So that was really cool.

Go in with an open mind
and go in eager to learn

because you’re going to get surrounded by so much stuff

that’s probably going to be very new
to you. And being prepared to learn

and learn a lot and also making mistakes because a good internship

and a good boss will always teach you what you need to know

once you show that you’re eager to learn. Just be prepared to just

really immerse yourself in the experience and the education that you’ll get.

Because if there’s one thing that Emerson is really good at, they’re really good

at giving students internships experience,

and you really need to take full advantage of it because you’re getting the experience

of the professional real world
that will help you later on in the future.
