00:00:00:00 – 00:00:00:16
Hi, guys.
00:00:00:16 – 00:00:01:22
My name is Feixu Chen.
00:00:01:22 – 00:00:06:04
I am from Shanghai, China,
and I’m currently a journalism
00:00:06:04 – 00:00:10:12
major junior at Emerson College, minoring in Psychology and Public Relations.
00:00:10:20 – 00:00:14:25
Where I’m currently interning is at Channel 7 WHDH TV
00:00:14:25 – 00:00:17:14
as a special projects group intern.
00:00:27:15 – 00:00:30:14
So I found this internship through
the Journalism Department newsletter.
00:00:30:14 – 00:00:31:12
It’s called The Beat.
00:00:31:12 – 00:00:33:08
Personally, I think it’s a pretty useful newsletter
00:00:33:08 – 00:00:34:29
because it contains a lot of information
00:00:34:29 – 00:00:37:29
about the internships that are currently hiring
00:00:38:00 – 00:00:40:23
and also the events
that are happening on campus
00:00:40:23 – 00:00:43:23
or other journalism events
that are happening in Boston.
00:00:43:25 – 00:00:46:25
And the reason
I chose to take this internship is
00:00:46:25 – 00:00:50:22
because I want to advantage
of every opportunity that I can.
00:00:50:24 – 00:00:54:10
Channel 7 is a relatively small TV station, which means I will get
00:00:54:10 – 00:00:56:01
more hands-on opportunities
00:00:56:01 – 00:00:59:15
and it also means I can
shadow journalists
00:00:59:17 – 00:01:02:11
who go out filming and interviewing.
00:01:05:26 – 00:01:06:23
So now I’m mainly
00:01:06:23 – 00:01:10:00
responsible for listening and filtering viewer voice messages
00:01:10:02 – 00:01:13:16
on the consumer news program
called “Solve It 7,”
00:01:13:19 – 00:01:16:11
as well as doing research
on other possible pitches.
00:01:20:04 – 00:01:23:04
My favorite part of this internship
is going out
00:01:23:06 – 00:01:26:23
with my fellow journalists, which I get to interact with the people
00:01:26:23 – 00:01:30:17
we interview, as well as learning
some interviewing skills
00:01:30:17 – 00:01:32:01
from the questions they ask.
00:01:35:10 – 00:01:37:10
I think as journalists, this industry
00:01:37:10 – 00:01:41:01
now requires us to be more of a one-man-band,
00:01:41:04 – 00:01:45:25
which means we need to be all rounders, not only interviewing,
00:01:45:25 – 00:01:48:28
but also filming, editing, researching,
00:01:48:28 – 00:01:49:21
and so on.
00:01:53:04 – 00:01:55:29
Congratulations
on finding your own internship.
00:01:55:29 – 00:01:58:14
It’s always very exciting
and hopefully you’ll be able
00:01:58:14 – 00:02:01:12
to gain experience for your lifetime, build connections,
00:02:01:12 – 00:02:03:29
and the most important
thing: enrich your life.
