“I learned my limits and I set really healthy boundaries” – Shernice Lazare ’96

Through nearly a decade of work in the San Francisco and Los Angeles education communities, Shernice Lazare has made an indelible impact on the lives of countless teachers and students. The recipient of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Emerson College and two Master’s degrees from UCLA and California State University. In 2015, Lazare joined The New School of San Francisco as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Since 2020, she has served as a teacher at the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute, where she develops curriculum focused on holistic learning standards and lifelong success for students from Kindergarten through eighth grade in addition to coaching and shaping the professional development of other educators. 

In 2022, Lazare became the Head of DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) at Citizens of the World Charter Schools Los Angeles, a network of public schools that emphasizes intellectual rigor with a global perspective and the creation of a culturally diverse learning community. A believer in the transformative power of education, Lazare is a strong advocate for access to quality education in all communities.
