There’s plenty of reasons folks revisit their career plans. Relocating, family needs, new interests, work environment, or upward mobility being just a few. The events of 2020 and 2021 have been two catalysts for folks considering what they want out of their careers going forward. Are their resources for alumni?
Absolutely. One of the best places to start is to visit the Career Resource Library on CareerBuzz. CareerBuzz provides a platform for alumni and student voices, but also guidance on the things you need in order to be a strong candidate for a job. Check out the library for guides on topics like resumes, interview preparation, and salary negotiation.

I’m not sure what I want to do next. Where do I even start?
Sometimes it’s helpful to begin with one of the main documents that we all need for a career: your resume. Reviewing it is a great foundation for looking back at what you’ve accomplished, and you can review our resume guide to get a sense of where it needs to be improved. In a career counseling appointment, resumes are also a great launch pad to start exploring where you want to transition.
Are there folks I can talk to about an industry I’m interested in?
A great place to start is through informational interviewing, which is a way to make a meaningful connection with folks via sharing your interests, and your curiosity about what they do. One of the best places to start is through the Emerson site Emerge. Any successful career transition is never made alone!
