Black Writers in Focus

DIVERSO has partnered with RIDEBACK (Aladdin, It, The LEGO Movies) and THE WRITERS GUILD FOUNDATION, to create Black Writers in Focus: a paid internship program for Black student screenwriters.

Vetted by a rigorous committee of all Black readers, four talented students will spend ten weeks over the summer fine-tuning a writing sample with a personalized mentor, attending panels and classes with industry leaders, and learning from the best by shadowing in a writers’ room. Students will be paid to develop their craft.

Diversity & Inclusion Unscripted Internship Program

The Television Academy Foundation’s Diversity and Inclusion Unscripted Internship Program provides internships in Unscripted/Reality Television to five students from low-income backgrounds who are attending college/university within the Greater Los Angeles area.

The program gives students in-depth exposure to professional television production during an eight-week, paid summer period in Los Angeles. Students must demonstrate a commitment to promoting the voices and stories of underrepresented communities and increasing diversity and inclusion in the television industry. Only graduating students with degrees conferred by June 2021 are eligible to apply.

HACU Internship Program

Whether you’re seeking an internship with the federal government or in the corporate sector, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) can provide you the opportunity to graduate with career experience. For over 25 years, the HACU National Internship Program has partnered with organizations seeking to diversify their workforce.

Define American Immigrant Creative Fellowship

The Define American Creative Fellowship is open to creatives in narrative-oriented art forms (writing, filmmaking, visual storytelling, theater, illustration, spoken word, digital journalism, etc.) with at least some experience (professional or amateur) in their chosen medium.
This program is uniquely suited to supporting artists who have a deep commitment to their local communities and further developing their creative practice as they shape narratives of American identity.

A Public Space Writing Fellowship

The aim of these fellowships is to seek out and support writers who embrace risk in their work and their own singular vision.Only writers who have not yet published or been contracted to write a book-length work are eligible. International applicants are encouraged to apply, but we are only able to consider submissions in English. Only one submission per person is allowed.

CAA Elevate

CAA Elevate is a new program from the Creative Artists Agency which resembles a mini-MBA intensive. Led by agents and executives, the program’s curriculum will offer a 360-degree overview of all the agency’s varied business practices to add value to employees who do not work in film.

In addition to the business academics, CAA’s trainee program will also for the first time incorporate an inclusion training component, which its organizers say will include educational resources but also be borne out of experiential learning among the cohort.

Array Crew

ARRAY Crew is a database for Hollywood’s below-the-line crew members. ARRAY Crew’s main focus is to elevate women, people of color and other underrepresented film and television professionals. Open to Alumni.

HBOAccess Writers Fellowship

Formerly the HBO Access Writing Fellowship, the WarnerMedia Access Writers Program is a multi-month pipeline program for lower-level narrative TV writers. The objective of the program is to provide marginalized voices a pathway for entry into the television industry through instruction, mentorship and exposure. Up to 20 writers from across various genres will be selected to be a part of the inaugural cycle in 2021.

The virtual program will kick-off in mid-July 2021 and continue through January 2022, meeting 1 – 2 times per week, covering the business of television and the creative process. The final leg of the workshop will focus on script development and the creation of a new sample. At the conclusion of the program, the WarnerMedia Equity & Inclusion group will work with the participants to find potential staffing opportunities within the enterprise. Applications open March 8th.
