One of the hardest parts of making any sort of connection, whether it’s personal or professional, is landing your first impression. Unsurprisingly, this is also one of the biggest challenges for students looking to make their first connection with a specific company or with employers in general. This is an issue the Career Development Center’s new Career Cafe series hopes to address.

The Career Cafe series is a bi-weekly program which offers students to connect with one or two local employers in a non-professional environment. Cafes are held each Wednesday throughout the semester in Emerson’s Lion’s Den Cafe, near the Center Stage Entrance. These cafe-type events are meant to offer a chance for students to learn more about companies and their opportunities while sharing a cup or two of coffee with a recruiter.

Let’s be clear: This is not a hiring event. Instead, it’s a chance to casually chat about your professional interests without the stress of needing to hand in a resume or formal application. It’s a chance to make a genuine connection with just one of the employers the Career Development Center works with to provide full-time internship opportunities.

The first Career Cafe will take place on 1/15, from 1:00pm – 2:00pm, in the Lion’s Den. Future Career Cafes can be found on EmConnect.

There’s no need to RSVP — just stop by and say hello!
