Trying to find time to think about your future beyond Emerson College can be a little difficult when you’re balancing things like a full course load and your student involvement on campus. Trying to think about a specific career can be even more difficult. There are so many paths to choose from and so many opportunities to look into… it can feel debilitating, to say the least.

That’s why the Career Development Center has decided to offer a more holistic approach to your experience at Emerson College:

Let’s say that everything you do in your next few years here has some kind of impact in preparing you for life after college. This could range anywhere between your involvement in a student organization to the specific internships you apply to. While one of these seems more apparent in its connection to your career, both of these items offer a way for you to develop one part of the person you’ll become in the next few ways.

They build on competencies that are integral to the workplace. This includes things like your ability to communicate with others or the way you approach problem-solving. You’ll notice this more after the next few years when you find yourself more prepared for conflict or more seasoned when it comes to planning but let’s talk about the here and now.

What is Career Design Pathways?

Career Design Pathways is a new program sponsored by the Career Development Center that tries to connect on-campus event and opportunities with students’ long-term planning and professional development.

The cool way of saying this is… It’s a program meant to make your life easier when it comes to considering careers and the steps you’ll need to take to get one.

Whether you choose to work with our office or first explore them yourselves, the Career Pathways are currently live on EmConnect for all First-Year Students. The program is available to others but our office will need to activate your involvement in the program. Use the video above to see exactly how to access your Paths!

Those who work independently will have the ability to select certain items that are most relevant to their interests and future goals while those who work with the Career Development Center may do the same but with some guidance. Our office can help identify the best paths for you to take in your time at Emerson as we work to discover your personal interests or strengths and how those might be harnessed into a future career.

Think of this as a “Choose Your Own Adventure” story where the stakes are entirely defined by you. Just remember: We’re always here to help.

Start exploring the unique pathways today with the information available on our Career Design page and be sure to contact our office if you’re interested in joining the program!
