What do Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Late Night With Seth Myers and McDonald’s McD Burger Showdown all have in Common? They have all had content produced by Imaginary Forces, one of the most creative entertainment and visual design firms in the industry. From Hollywood’s hottest hits to some of the most recognizable brands in the world, Imaginary Forces delivers award-winning work that is both edgy, creative, and most of all: captivating.

Founded in 1996 Imaginary Forces brings 21 years of digital storytelling expertise to the table and has offices in both New York City and Los Angeles. They’re lean and mean keeping a small, yet dedicated permanent staff and rely on talented full time and part time freelancers to help them deliver their exceptional work. While becoming a freelancer may not be your ultimate career goal, it allows you to build up your body of work, familiarize yourself with being on a professional set, but most importantly to network and start creating industry connections. Check out their careers page for current freelance and permanent job opportunities.

In addition to their staff and freelancers, Imaginary Forces offers paid internships year round and looks for upperclassmen, ideally graduating seniors that can transition into freelance roles to join their team. As one of the leading production studios in the business, they only look for the best of the best to come learn from their team of experts. Are you intrigued? Good! Take a look below on how to stand out and get your application noticed:

  • A Vimeo page or other online reel of your work is required. Once they check out your stuff and get a sense of your style, they’ll move on to review your resume. While including school projects is great, what really stands out to them is content you create on your own, as a part of a student club, or at an internship.
  • Make sure you include any relevant software or technical skills on your resume! This is very important and how they know you’ll be able to come in and hit the ground running. In particular, they look for: After Effects, Maya, Nuke, and ReelFlow.
  • Successful interns are willing to work hard, stay late with the team to meet a deadline, and take the initiative to ask for more projects rather than waiting around to be told what to do. In both your cover letter and interview (if asked) take some time to think about how you’ve gone above and beyond in your work or classes and come up with some examples to share – you got this!

We look forward to introducing you to their team on our annual New York Connection Trip on November 9th.
