Our office has compiled a new edition of its Hiring Outlook Report using employer data from the month of June in Handshake. This latest report also highlights key data about how students and employers have engaged with our office in the past 30 days.

Career Dashboard

Students and Employers remain highly engaged with our office. Using Handshake, students were able to…

  • Submit 741 Applications: Of that total, 409 applications were submitted toward Fall internship opportunities. 232 applications were submitted to full-time job opportunities. The number of applications submitted this month saw a significant decrease (compared to 1,042 applications submitted in June) as we continue to see a Summer drop-off in engagement and a decrease in Summer internships. We expect Fall internships and the opening of our Fall For-Credit Internship form to drive more engagement over the next month.
  • Complete 83 Appointments: Appointments also saw a slight decrease from last month (compared to 239 appointments in June). This is also a result of less student engagement over the Summer months.

On the employer side, our Employer Engagement Team is continuing its outreach by working through Employer Approval Requests and new job and internship opportunities on Handshake. Over the past month, we have been able to approved 338 new employers across a variety of industries. This is a significant increase compared to last month’s number of 229 new employer approvals.

Who’s Hiring

The following insights were put together using employer, internship, and job data that was shared within Handshake in the past 30 days. These findings reflect the most up-to-date information in terms of open internship and job opportunities.

Opportunities Shared in Past 30 Days:

Over the past month, we saw a massive uptick in jobs and internships with 428 new posts from employers (compared to 379 posts in June). We predict this number will continue to climb as more employers are approved and more Fall internship opportunities are added to Handshake.

Hiring Industries

Journalism, Media, & Publishing has returned to its ranking as the top hiring industry for July. This rank was held by Non-Profit last month, which has now dropped to the 4th highest hiring industry.

Other Industries may refer to companies which have yet to select an industry on Handshake and also refers to companies outside of Handshake’s available industries.
