You’ve probably heard us mention Resume Books quite a few times over the past few weeks as Fall 2017 Internships continued to pop up from places like CAA, Paradigm, and Viacom.
But what exactly is a Resume Book?
A resume book is what we send to employers to highlight candidates from Emerson College. It’s our way of pointing your application out to recruiters so you may be contacted in the future.
You’ll want to submit your resume to our resume book if you’re interested in or have already applied to Fall Internships with talent agencies or major studios as we can help keep your resume from getting buried by hundreds to thousands of other applicants. Consider it one of the perks of working with Career Services
There are a few steps to take before submitting your Resume:
STEP 1: Actually, you know… Make your resume.
Be sure to tailor your resume to the specific position you’re applying to. Consider what skills you’ll want to highlight and always be clear, efficient, and results-heavy in what you’re presenting to your potential employer. If you’re applying for a production internship, take a look at what NBC considers the “perfect” resume.
STEP 2: Have your resume reviewed.
What are the 3 R’s of every successful resume? Review, review, review. We can’t stress enough how important it is to meet with your Career Counselor to go over your resume and make sure it’s the perfect display of who you are. Remember: We are sending your resume out to some of the most important companies in your industry – make sure your resume is ready!
For example, if you are applying to a VMA-related opportunity, be sure to make an appointment with Marissa Shallcross by calling our office at 617-824-8586 .
STEP 3: Meet the deadline, check your bases.
Always be sure to apply to official internship through a company’s career site to make sure your resume is in their system. Our Resume Books will help you get noticed but are meant to supplement the materials you’re already submitting.
Make sure you’ve gone through these steps and double-triple check that everything is in order from resume to portfolio. Submit your resume to our Resume Books in advance and stay in touch if you have questions – we’re happy to help!
